Hero Recognition Program
Students are more likely to follow expectations when those expectations have been explicitly taught and when appropriate behavior is consistently recognized. With the kickoff held each fall and booster lessons taught when teachers notice students are not following expectations, we have ensured that all students know and have practiced expected behaviors in all areas of the school.
The other way to ensure success is to provide consistent recognition. We do this with our HERO recognition tickets. All staff members are encouraged to carry HERO tickets with them at all times throughout the building. When staff members come across any student who they recognize as following our Jaguar Way expectations, the staff member can recognize this student by giving him/her a HERO ticket making a brief statement thanking them for being a hero.
It is then the student’s responsibility to write his or her own name on the ticket and follow the classroom procedure for redeeming the ticket.
Students redeem tickets in two ways:
Tickets are placed in the classroom weekly drawing bin. Teachers choose one ticket each Friday and that student selects a prize from the classroom prize bin. Teachers then forward their winning ticket to the office and one student is selected on Monday morning to receive the ‘Traveling Jaguar’ award for that week.
When students have collected 50 tickets, they are inducted into our Green Team, and will receive a dog tag, and certificate, have their picture taken with Mr. Pieschek and Mr. Fisch, and be announced on announcements. When students have collected an additional 70 tickets, they are inducted into our Gold Team, and will receive a medal, or certificate, have their picture taken with Mr. Pieschek and Mr. Fisch, and be announced on announcements. When students have collected 100 additional tickets and completed a community service paw pride form, they are inducted into our Jaguar Team. These students receive a HERO t-shirt like the one worn by staff, a certificate, have their picture taken with Mr. Pieschek and Mr. Fisch, and are announced on announcements.
