Hope Squad
Hope Squads reduce youth suicide through education, training, and peer intervention. The Ashwaubenon Hope Squad, which is being implemented district wide, will allow students to connect to each other and help with the prevention, intervention, and postvention of suicide.
Hope Squad members are nominated by their classmates as trustworthy and are trained by advisors such as school counselors, social workers, and teachers. These reliable and trusted peers come together with the common goal of preventing suicide through public awareness and eduction, reducing stigma, and serving as a resource to those touched by suicide. Hope Squad members will wear Hope Squad shirts throughout the year so other students can identify them as trusted individuals.
The Hope Squad will participate in trainings throughout the year that will include:
- Identifying suicide warning signs
- Talking about suicide
- Helping a friend
- Setting boundaries
- Knowing when to refer a peer to an adult
- QPR (Question, Persuade, Respond)
