The Ashwaubenon Boys Golf Program consists of teams at the Varsity, Varsity Reserve, Junior Varsity, and Freshman levels. Any boys from the freshman through senior classes are eligible to try out for the various teams. The program carries approximately 35 boys for all levels. Try-outs are at the end of March and early April. Players need to provide their own clubs.
The season begins late March with the first competitions scheduled approximately two weeks after. The season ends at the beginning of June, unless the varsity team qualifies for the state tournament generally the first full week of June. During this period, no player is allowed to play in more than 14 competitions.
Our teams compete in the FRCC as well as in various non-conference invitationals. Players are expected to be present at every practice, with focus and passion for the game. The goal of each player is to reach his potential. When called upon, players must be available to play each event. Remember that high school golf is a team game with each member responsible to other members of the team. Most golf meets are played either by 5 players, with 4 scores counting, or 4 players with all scores counting.
Players are expected to obey the rules of golf as well as etiquette. Cheating, swearing, throwing clubs, inappropriate dress, and insincerity will not be tolerated. To play competitive interscholastic golf all players need to improve their game by participating in as many golf functions as possible. There are summer tours and tournaments and a wide variety of golf courses and ranges to practice. We encourage the use of indoor practice facilities to work on the basic fundamentals of the golf swing.
